I believe that as the sensor size decreases and the mp on the sensor increases even in really good light the lenses would have to be incedibley good in order to have enough resolution to provied detail on a small high mp sensor.Ĭlick to expand. They're clearly more economical to make…but taking something like the Z50 Nikon makes more money if you buy a 6II or 7II…so they have an incentive to make the cheaper models more low end in features and hence not as interesting to people like us except as vacation/walking around cameras. I would not want to give up the high ISO performace of FF sensors. I shoot a lot at ISO 6400 and up and believe that the Z6ii with it's 24mp full frame sensor performs much better at high ISOs than my D500. If my calculations are correct if a DX sensor had 30mp it would have a similar pixel density to a 68mp FX sensor. I think the problem is that to fit 30mp on a DX size sensor would require the pixels to be very small and would most likely not be able to provide the same image quality at higher ISOs as an FX sensor with the same 30mp. I shoot a lot with a 70-200 f2.8 zoom and if I could mount that lens on a 30mp DX camera and have the equivalent of a 105-300 f2.8 zoom I would be very happy. If I could purchase a 30mp DX camera that would provide the same image quality at the same ISO as a 30mp full frame camera I would definately have a DX version.
